Gold Jewellery Quote Checklist Before You Pay
Record the same item, weight, purity, rate basis and charge lines for each quote. Use one comparison sheet and ask about unclear values; this is not a tax or fee guide.

Quick answer: Before comparing two gold jewellery quotes, record the same details from each: item, quantity, net gold weight, stated purity, rate and rate date. Ask for jarti or wastage, making charge, stones and other bill lines to be shown separately. If the inputs or charge bases differ, clarify them before comparing totals. This is a note-taking checklist, not a fee or tax guide.
Copy the item and weight details
Write down the item and quantity exactly as quoted. For a set, check which pieces are included and whether each is priced separately. Copy both gross weight and net gold weight if the quote gives them. If stones, beads, enamel, thread or other materials are present, ask how their weight and value are handled.
Keep the quoted unit beside every weight. If one quote is in grams and another in tola, use GoldNepal's weight converter to put them on the same unit basis, then confirm the convention used on the seller's written quote.
Record the rate and purity as written
Copy the stated purity or karat, the gold rate, its unit, and its date or source. Ask whether the rate is a 24K reference or has already been adjusted for the quoted purity; do not apply the same purity adjustment twice. GoldNepal's gold rate page is a market reference, not a seller's final jewellery quote. Check the displayed source, effective date and check time. If the freshness is unclear or the dates conflict, ask the seller which rate and time the quote uses.
Separate each charge or material
Copy every amount beyond the metal value onto its own line. If the quote uses jarti or wastage, ask what the term means for that item and what value the amount or percentage is based on. Record making or labour charges separately. Note whether each line is a fixed amount, a per-unit amount or a percentage, and write down the percentage base.
Keep stones and other materials separate when they are priced separately. Copy tax, discounts, exchange credits and other adjustments exactly as shown; ask what an unclear line applies to. This checklist does not state a current tax rule or a standard local billing method.
Use the same comparison sheet for both quotes
Copy each seller's own wording into the same rows. This makes different assumptions visible without treating either seller's method as a standard.
| Quote line | What to record from each seller |
|---|---|
| Item and quantity | Exact description; which pieces are included in a set. |
| Weight | Gross and net gold weight, unit, and any excluded materials. |
| Rate and purity | Rate, unit, source or date, stated purity, and whether purity is already applied. |
| Jarti or wastage | Quoted amount or percentage and the value it is based on. |
| Making or labour | Quoted amount or percentage and its calculation basis. |
| Other lines | Stones, other materials, tax, discount, exchange credit, or adjustment as written. |
| Total | Final amount and any stated quote-validity or exchange terms. |
Before comparing totals, ask the seller to explain any missing, repeated-looking or unclear line. If the rate date, net weight, purity or percentage base differs, note that difference rather than treating the totals as directly comparable.
For the calculation itself
If you want to check how rate, purity and net weight combine, use GoldNepal's worked guide to calculating a jewellery price. Keep a current rate's date and source beside your notes. This checklist focuses on what to compare in a written quote; the calculation guide explains the arithmetic.
