How to Use a Jewellery Making Charge Calculator in Nepal

A jewellery making-charge calculator can help you compare the figures on a written quote, but it cannot decide whether a seller’s charge is fair. What the calculator estimates

Choose Gold or Silver, then check the fine-metal rate per tola, currency, purity and weight unit. Gold uses karat; silver offers fine and sterling purity. The tool also has percentage fields for jarti or wastage, making charge and tax. The result depends on the values entered. GoldNepal does not verify those figures or recommend a standard percentage for a particular design.

The calculator uses percentage fields. It does not directly enter a fixed NPR amount or per-gram labour fee, and it does not price stones or apply a discount field. If a quote uses one of those methods, keep that line separate and ask the seller how it is calculated rather than forcing it into a percentage input.

Check the quote before entering numbers

• Confirm the selected metal, rate amount, currency, unit and date. The calculator can prefill the latest published Nepal benchmark, but your seller may use a different dated rate. Enter a seller-provided rate when comparing that written quote; do not enter a purity-adjusted rate as though it were the fine-metal base.
• Use the quoted weight and unit. If you need to convert units, use the GoldNepal weight converter and confirm the unit convention on the seller’s bill.
• Ask what “Jarti” or “wastage” means for that item, what it is based on, and whether it is shown as a percentage or an amount.
• Separate making charge, stone cost, discount and tax lines. Enter only values the calculator actually provides a field for.

Use the percentage fields carefully

1. Select Gold or Silver, confirm the fine-metal rate per tola, then choose the quoted purity and weight unit.
2. Enter the quoted weight, then add wastage/Jarti, making-charge and tax percentages only when the seller has stated them.
3. Review the result and its component amounts. Change one input at a time if you are checking how a quote line affects the total.
4. Compare the estimate with the written quote. Ask the seller to explain any line that uses a different basis.

For example, 8% of a hypothetical NPR 100,000 metal subtotal is NPR 8,000. This illustrates percentage arithmetic only; it is not a suggested or typical making-charge rate.

Compare like with like

Two totals are comparable only when their rate, purity, weight, included materials and charge basis match. If a quote includes stones, a fixed labour amount or a discount, note those separately because the calculator’s percentage fields do not represent every possible quote line.
